Many challenges must be faced, given the condition of the body of the elderly who are already very vulnerable to various types of diseases.

No doubt, increasing age will certainly make the body undergo many changes. This process is called aging (aging), and changes that are felt covering all members of the body. Starting from skin that tends to dry and wrinkled, gray hair growth, to changes in internal organs.

The organs in the body that first experience the aging process are the heart and blood vessels. The walls of blood vessels, both the veins and veins, will become stiffer.

This results in greater resistance, so the heart works harder to pump blood through the veins. This makes the elderly vulnerable to experiencing high blood pressure or hypertension and various other heart problems.

Not only that, the elderly are also prone to experiencing balance disorders. This puts them at risk of falling, even when carrying out their daily activities at home. Falling elderly can experience health complications, such as broken bones, infections, to disability (disability).

Tips for maintaining elderly health

Healthy eating patterns
The elderly are advised to eat whole foods and high fiber, such as various fruits and vegetables and cereal grains. Avoid fast foods, foods that are too salty or sweet, and fatty foods.

It would be better if the elderly consume nuts and dairy products that are low in fat. Research says that eating patterns like this can protect the elderly from heart disease, Parkison, Alzheimer’s, even cancer.

Stay active
Try to stay active in physical activity, at least 30 minutes a day. It does not need to be done at once, but divided into 10 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon.

Physical activity carried out is quite mild to moderate intensity, such as walking, cycling, swimming or gymnastics. Aerobic exercise like that can expedite blood flow and oxygen circulation throughout the body.

In addition, the exercise can also slow the occurrence of symptoms of dementia alias senile, control weight, maintain bone and muscle endurance, and improve sleep quality.

Get enough rest
Insomnia is one of the problems that often occurs in the elderly. Those who are no longer young often complain of difficulty falling asleep and easily waking up at night.

In fact, quality sleep will maintain a good mood, the body’s cells regenerate, and body organs to function optimally.

Therefore, the elderly are highly recommended to have enough sleep.

Apply good sleep habits (sleep routine). For example the bedroom lights are in a dim state, sleep and wake up at the same time every day, and do not look at the television screen or cellphone before going to sleep.

In addition, you should avoid coffee in the afternoon or evening, and do not forget to exercise regularly. These things can keep your sleep quality good.

Join the community
The elderly often feel alone, because their children are starting to live apart from them. This feeling of being left alone can lead to symptoms of depression, which can be bad for health.

To prevent this from happening, the elderly should join the community. Look for elderly communities in the neighborhood, and try to get involved in community activities or in places of worship.

Many researchers find that the elderly who are involved in the community will have a better quality of life, avoiding dementia and other degeneration (aging) diseases.

Routine health check
Check your health regularly! Increasing age makes the function of body organs experience changes. In fact, it is not impossible that the functions of vital organs in the body will also decrease.

Now, by checking themselves regularly to the health center or hospital, many diseases can be detected as early as possible, treated quickly and precisely before various complications occur.

Even though you are already elderly, it does not mean that you are resigned to the situation and allow disease to arrive. So that, apply tips to maintain the health of the elderly as stated so that you are able to enjoy the old days with optimal conditions, happiness, and far from illness.
